Main Street Voices announces its 2024 events

Main Street Voices, a one-of-a-kind series of events in the St. Croix Valley, has announced its 2024 lineup.  The volunteer-run, community-building initiative features ongoing public events that uniquely combine both first-rate entertainment and inspiring thought leaders.

Presenting Sponsors include Saphire Realty, The Barred Owl and Luhrs/Bjornson Artworks.

11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6 – Earth Day student environmental panel

Main Street Voices’ first event will be a panel discussion featuring students from four area schools (Unity, St. Croix Falls and Osceola) who will discuss how young people view today’s environment and how it might affect and impact their futures.  Brian Collins, a science teacher at Unity High School and 2024 Wisconsin State Teacher of the Year, national representative, will moderate the panel at the Taylors Falls Community Center.  The event will be free of charge although RSVPs are required as space is limited.

7:30 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2024 – Salsa band, Charanga Tropical

Charanga Tropical, a 10-piece salsa ensemble, which includes master musicians from Cuba, Brazil, Mexico and the U.S., will perform classic and modern salsa music at Chateau St. Croix.  The band’s unique Cuban “charanga” instrumentation presents a harmonically rich and infectiously rhythmic sound.  The Star Tribune raves about the group’s “distinctive Caribbean sound” and City Pages calls the group “a musical delight and a visual spectacle.”

Tickets will be $25 and will go on sale in June.

7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2024 – Braver Angels, featuring Bill Doherty

To round out the year, Bill Doherty, co-founder of Braver Angels, will speak about uniting “red” and “blue” Americans in a working alliance to depolarize America.  Braver Angels, a nonpartisan nonprofit that believes Americans agree on more issues than they differ, brings citizens together to bridge the partisan divide and strengthen our democratic republic.  Braver Angel’s impact has been featured in a variety of broadcast and print media across the political spectrum.  The event will be held at the Taylors Falls Community Center and will be free of charge.

Online signup will be available in August.

Organized by members of SCUUF, Main Street Voices launched its initiative in November 2023 with two sold-out concerts featuring the highly acclaimed singer-songwriter Ann Reed.

More About Main Street Voices

Main Street Voices is a volunteer initiative in the greater St. Croix Valley that combines quality entertainment and thought leaders to enrich our diverse community.  Innovative public events help bring together people from different backgrounds and walks of life that promote a vital social cohesion, building connected and informed communities, and creating a more vibrant and inclusive society.

Main Street Voices is designed to be different.  It’s not just a quality concert series or an informative speaker’s series – it’s both.  Programming aims to create a sense of unity, foster learning and provide a platform for people to express themselves.   Organizers expect this distinctive variety of ‘voices’ to engage friends of all backgrounds, including youth, from up and down the river from Wisconsin to Minnesota, where we live and work and play together.
